The following is an excerpt from the Dating Types chapter of our book on singles' secrets
As we have said, there are 3 types of daters:
- Players
- Casual daters
- Long term relationship seekers
I don’t really believe the types differ by gender.
In the movies, more men are portrayed as players than women in pop culture, but if you think about it, you know that‘s not true. You know you see the Paris Hilton’s in the world. You see the Lindsay Lohan‘s.
Obviously, there are just as many single women who are players as there are single men. That label can apply to male or female.
Times Have Changed!
The reason for this is a whole other topic. Sexual morality has gotten a lot more free. That spectrum has widened quite a bit, especially among younger people. We’re hearing that kids in high school now have sex clubs and that’s boys and girls. They’re both genders participating.
Of course, as people get into their 20’s they take that behavior into their dating lifestyle. One of the things that we know about kids in high school is they’re telling us that it’s much easier for them to hook up with someone than it is to ask them out on a date.
They’re finding that this whole players lifestyle, just kind of keeping it loose, no strings attached kind of behavior really works well for them. As that new movie that’s coming out, No Strings Attached, the female partner is just as much a player as the male partner.
This was not something that historically you could say. In the past, it might have been gender specific, and that’s how we were raised. If you look at the history of dating, that’s how it was but no more.
Casual Dating Crosses All Spectrums
Single men and single women like to have friends for participating in activities such as movies, hiking, cycling, dining, and so on. Casual dating crosses genders and even types of people in some situations.
Dating Over 40 & Long Term Relationship Seeking…
I think when you get to the long term relationship side of it, of course, men are going to say they’re under more pressure from women with the biological clock and all that.
Well, men have a biological clock as well. It just happens at a later age. It manifests itself in a different way. So single men are equally as likely to want a long term relationship as single women. This is especially true of both single men and women dating over 40.
